One of the best ways to help uncover the secrets of any organism is by understanding its genetic makeup. Rob Davidson of GigaScience and Scott Edmunds of BGI-Hong Kong love their Genomics. So much so they decided to start The Hong Kong Genome Project. Genomics is sequencing genetic code and it provides a complete look into the genetics of any species. It is also one of the key technologies that will define the 21st century. While Hong Kong has made major advances in genomics, the general public has little awareness or understanding of the field.
This is your chance to learn more AND get involved with Science Lovers & Geeks.
For this meet-up only, just to get us going again, drinks are on me!
That’s right. Free beer for this meet-up only.
We’ll start the night with a talk and QandA with Scott and Rob, then we’ll have a few cold drinks and brain storm about how to promote science in Hong Kong and how Science Lovers and Geeks can be part of that.
Really looking forward to seeing you there.
Location is “To Be Determined” but will be somewhere on the Blue Line between Wan Chai and Kennedy Town. So not far from Central and easy to get to. I can’t announce the location until I book it AND I can’t book it until enough people RSVP “Yes”. So please RSVP “Yes” ASAP.
